Jet Li is one of the biggest Asian stars of this generation. He is not only an international film star, but also a martial arts expert, film producer, wushu champion and actor who is known in his native Beijing by his Chinese name Li Lianjie.
Born on April 26, 1963, he is a Taurus born and bred. Taurus people are known to be steadfast, patient and extremely determined in the face of strife. These are the qualities that describe Jet Li best. He has trained in martial arts for decades and makes sure that this is portrayed in the purest and best form in his Hollywood movies.
He was born in Beijing. At an early age, he was already an expert in wushu and continued to train heavily under Wu Bin. Jet Li eventually reached expert status and won several medals in local and international competitions. People took notice of him and he started getting work as a film actor in his homeland China and soon after, in Hong Kong. His famous name “Jet Li” was coined by a Philippine publicity company who likened him to a jet which “takes off” so quickly. Soon thereafter, he made his debut in the 1982 film Shaolin. He also appeared in several Chinese-language movies like Once Upon a Time in China and Fist of Legend. In 1998, he made his Hollywood debut with Lethal Weapon 4, in which he played the villain. In 2001, he appeared in his starrer role in The One andKiss of the Dragon.
In 2006, he appeared in the martial arts epic movie Fearless. He also co-starred in a movie with fellow martial arts veteran Jackie Chan in the movie The Forbidden Kingdom, which was a commercial and critical success. After a hiatus from films, he returned to movies in the action movie The Expendables with fellow big names such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. He is set to return for The Expendables 2 in the next year.
Like many Tauruses, Li is keen-witted and very intelligent. Tauruses are also known to be extremely practical and efficient workers. Their vices stem from an excess of their virtues. They can be seen as extremely conservative and self-righteous. In their personal relationships, they are faithful and affectionate. They are also very generous to their peers. In 1987, Li married fellow Wushu team member Huang Qiuyan. The couple has two daughters, Si and Taimi. Unfortunately, the couple broke up in 1990. Since 1999, he has been married to Chinese actress Nina Li Chi. He has two daughters with her as well, Jane and Jada.
