Woody Harrelson is an American actor best known for being the bartender Woody Boyd in the classic defunct TV series Cheers. He has since then expanded his resume to films like Natural Born Killers, Kingpin, The People vs. Larry Flint, No Country for Old Men and Seven Pounds. Born on July 23, he is a Leo. Leos are, like their symbolic Lion, dominant and splendid in personality. Another side to them is their warm-heartedness and extroversion.
Woody was born in Midland, Texas. Interestingly, his fatherís job is a contract killer who was convicted for the killing of Federal Judge John Wood. His father eventually died in prison while serving his life sentence. Woody moved to his motherís hometown of Lebanon, Ohio in 1973, where he attended high school. He has a bachelorís degree in Theater Arts and English from Hanover College in 1983.
His career started when he was cast as the bartender Woody in Cheers. He lasted in the show for eight seasons and was nominated for an Emmy Award five times, winning once in 1989. He also guest-starred in the Cheers spin-off Frasier, which led to him being again nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in the 1999 Emmys. In 2001, he appeared in the hit TV show Will and Grace. He followed this up with roles in the movies Indecent Proposal, costarring Robert Redford and Demi Moore, and the Oliver Stone-directed film Natural Born Killers. Most recently, he appeared in the movies Friends With Benefits, Zombieland and The Hunger Games.
Like most Leos, Woody is creative and intensely enthusiastic about his work. His longevity in Hollywood is a testament to the fact that he loves his career. Leos are courageous and driven; their ambitions are big and epic in scale. Being persistent is not their only strength, as their charming personalities often help them achieve their dreams. They are strongly idealistic and intelligent. If they fail, they would turn this failure into a great opportunity for learning.
In love, they can be a bit too self-centered. Leos are passionate and warmhearted but their ego can be quite hard to deflate. To their friends, they are open, sincere and generous. Never lacking in kindliness and always plain spoken, a Leo will always be dependable in times of trouble.
Woody married Nancy Simon in 1995. In an interesting turn of events, the two intended to divorce the following day, but the storefront marriage/divorce parlor was closed when they had returned to it, and the two remained married for ten months. In 2008, Woody married his girlfriend since 1987 Laura Louie, with whom he has three daughters. Laura is his former assistant.
